Marvin Formosa is Professor at the Department of Gerontology and Dementia Studies, Faculty for Social Wellbeing, University of Malta. He published widely on lifelong learning, older adult learning and ageing policy. Recent books include Population ageing in the Middle East and North Africa (with Abdulrazzak Abyad, 2021), Ageing and COVID-19 (with Maria Luszczyńska, 2021), and The United Nations International Action Plan on Ageing (with Mala Kapur Shankardass, 2023). Prof. Formosa participated in many international research projects such as ‘European services for family carers of older people’ and ‘Establishing Centres for Third Age Education in the Russian Federation, Afghanistan and Ukraine’. In 2021, he was elected as Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. Prof. Formosa also holds the position of Director of the International Institute on Ageing (United Nations – Malta), Chairperson of the National Commission for Active Ageing (Malta) and was Rector’s Delegate for the Universities of the Third Age and Fourth Age (Malta) from 2014 to 2024.
